Effects of Exposure / Symptoms
- Inhalation: May cause dizziness, headache.
- Ingestion: Can lead to nausea, vomiting, irritation of mouth/throat, and gastrointestinal issues. Severe cases may result in chemical pneumonitis (potentially fatal).
- Skin Contact: Causes dryness, irritation, and removal of natural skin oils. Prolonged exposure may lead to dermatitis, oil acne, folliculitis, or warty growths (possible risk of skin cancer upon excessive, repeated exposure).
- Eye Contact: Causes mild to moderate irritation.
- Inhalation: Move victim to fresh air immediately. If not breathing, administer artificial respiration. If breathing but unconscious, place in recovery position and monitor vital signs. Provide external cardiac massage if required.
- Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting. Remove contaminated clothing. Wash affected skin with soap and water. Medical paraffin may reduce absorption. Gastric lavage should only be performed after endotracheal intubation, due to risk of chemical pneumonitis. Antibiotic and corticosteroid therapy may be necessary.
- Eyes: Rinse eyes thoroughly with copious amounts of clean water. Seek medical attention promptly.
