Crude Benzol Oil
Crude Benzol is an important by-product of the carbonisation of coking coal, widely used in the chemical and petrochemical industries. During the coking process, when coal is carbonised at high temperatures, volatile compounds are released, among which crude benzol is one of the most valuable products.
The term Benzol (or Benzole) is generally applied to a mixture of hydrocarbons belonging to the benzene series.
Production Process
- Crude benzol is obtained from coal carbonisation, a process carried out in coke ovens.
- Vapors released during this process are collected and cooled.
- Benzol is then recovered as part of the coal tar distillation process.
- Appearance: Clear, colorless to pale yellow liquid
- Composition: Rich in benzene, toluene, and xylene (BTX group)
- Volatility: Highly volatile and flammable
- Odor: Distinct aromatic odor
Safety & Handling
- Crude benzol is flammable and toxic, requiring careful storage and handling.
- Prolonged exposure to vapors may cause dizziness, headaches, or respiratory irritation.
- Direct skin contact should be avoided as it may cause irritation or dermatitis.
- Adequate ventilation, protective gear, and proper safety protocols are essential when handling crude benzol.
